Dan Cooper Original drawing by Albert Weinberg

Dan Cooper Original drawing by Albert Weinberg

Dan Cooper original drawing by Albert Weinberg  (9.4.1922 - 29.9.2011).  Probably planned as a giant poster in the size of 168 cm
(Should have been published by Koralle Verlag GmbH Berlin-Hamburg and the magazine Zack.) but “only” finally printed as a small figurine in Zack.

The originality was confirmed in 2024 by the French auction house Artcurial in Paris.
In a personal conversation with the employee responsible there, Saveria de Valence, a possible consignment was discussed, but no contract was concluded on our part.

The black and white drawing was signed by Albert Weinberg on the right at the level of Dan Cooper's knee on the right. The original paper sheet is protected by a thin and semi-transparent paper.
This protective paper is torn in one place at the bottom by approx. 5 cm. It is labeled on the left edge with 168 cm and two arrows from the head to the foot.

The drawing itself is without tears and is in beautiful condition. Another small piece of semi-transparent paper has been attached to the area of the feet with tape. The lettering Dan Cooper is mounted on this. The tape has left marks on the white drawing board in four places. However, the drawing itself is not affected by this. The size is approx. 43 x 14.5 cm.

Information on the reverse: Weinberg 233335/4
This handwritten note is very similar to that of a Luc Orient original drawing, which we offer elsewhere in our original art store. It can be assumed  that this drawing actually found its way to Germany to be printed in Zack magazine as a life-size Dan Cooper poster.
But things turned out differently in the end.

The drawing was used for one of the two game figures that were included as a supplement in the double issue 51/52  of the Zack adventure game in 1974.

The object can of course be viewed here in Bremen. However, as we have to get it out of a safe, we need a few days to prepare it. We have added a watermark so that nobody can use our scan. If you are seriously interested in buying it, we can of course send you an image without this watermark.

Provenance:

For many years the drawing was in the possession of Wolfgang J. Fuchs (September 6, 1945  -  January 20, 2020)
Wolfgang J. Fuchs last lived in Munich and was a German non-fiction author, freelance journalist], comic book author, translator and film expert. He is considered Germany's first comic researcher.
Before his death, he sold the drawing to the Munich collector Chris Krumm, who unfortunately died himself just two years later and whose estate we have taken over in its entirety.
